Commenting on Writing to Coach Revision (Online)

Responding to student writing can be time consuming and difficult to approach strategically. In this interactive online workshop, presenters will offer guidelines for prioritizing comments, composing helpful summary notes, and avoiding over-commenting on student work. While our Grading Writing workshop focuses on summative assessment, this workshop is premised on research that shows that detailed comments on student writing are most effective when students have an opportunity to revise their writing based on those comments.

The workshop will be held on Google Hangouts and broadcast live on YouTube. The first eight participants to sign up will join the facilitators on Google Hangouts. Those watching on YouTube will be able to submit questions and comments and partake in group activities using Google Drive. A Google+ account, which gives you access to both Google Hangouts and Drive, is required to participate.
