Summer Improv Theatre Camp 2013
(Session B is SOLD OUT; if you would like to be on the Waiting List, call us at 323-871-1193, ext 311)
This isn't your ordinary camp.
It's just not. There are no canoes. There are no cabins. We don't have Indian names (unless you were given one at birth). We have showers. People cook for us. We might make something out of macaroni, but it's doubtful.
Here's what we are: the best camp for improv training if you're a high school student, a college student or an educator who works with theatre students.
You're going to laugh a lot. Not a little--a lot.
You'll walk away with skills that will benefit you your entire life: trust, confidence, creative problem solving, teamwork, focus and the ability to turn challenges into gold. Simply, improv skills are essential for any actor, but also for anyone who wants to succeed.
This is a high school camp, for students who have at least completed their freshman year by Spring 2013. Graduating seniors are also welcome at camp. We also have camps for middle school and little kids.
Session A, July 23 - 27 (Tue - Sat) in La Mirada, CA
Session B, July 30 - August 3 (Tue - Sat) in La Mirada, CA
What to Expect
All workshops are taught by professionals from ComedySportz Los Angeles, the longest-running show in the city (almost 25 years) and the presenters of the largest teen improv program in the United States, The High School League® (operating for 24 years).
Evenings are filled with different shows every night, and there's plenty of time for swimming, basketball, classic comedy films and more.
Workshops include: games, dramatic improv, musical improv, styles, Shakespeare, commercial auditioning and more!
Camp fee includes lodging, meals, late-night snacks, workshops, performances, free-time activities (except swimming) and all materials.
Be sure to check out the low cost and the scholarships available. You can also get discounts for early registration or for bringing along some friends. Educators willing to assist our counselors can also attend at a lower rate.
Out-of-Town or Out-of-State Attendees
We have had many students participate from all across the country (including Alaska). We will assist you in finding airport transportation. Call us for more info: (323) 871-1193 or (800) 90-LAUGH.
On the campus of Biola University--fans of ComedySportz for over two decades!
Biola University has been a long-time supporter of ComedySportz; however, as always, our camp has no religious affiliation of any kind.
Biola is a small, private university with a rich heritage. Campers will stay on private floors in the most recently renovated student dormitory. Dormitories are fully air conditioned and offer double and triple occupancy. Each room is furnished with dressers and desks. Each floor has group bathrooms. Each floor is divided by gender.
The campus is quiet and peaceful with immaculately clean grounds and full-time security.
Three meals per day are served in the campus cafe with a variety of choices. The Eagle's Nest also has snacks and drinks available for purchase outside of regular meal times. Special food needs can be accommodated. A late night snack is also provided.
Our student-teacher ratio is 8:1. Assistant counselors bring the ratio to 4:1. Night time security is provided.
Once you've registered you'll get a confirmation via e-mail. Then, in May or early June, you will start to receive further e-mails from us with directions to camp, a list of what to bring, a couple of forms to fill out and all sorts of useful information.
It's the opportunity of a lifetime. Don't miss out. We might make macaroni hats.
