The University of Minnesota is planning to reinvest in steam utility operations at the "Old Main" power facility on the East Bank campus.
The Combined Heat and Power plant will further reduce the University's use of coal; use "waste" heat from generating electricity and reduce the University's carbon footprint by 62,000 metric tons of CO2; allow better control of utility costs; and reduce the risk of heat and power interruption for the Twin Cities Campus and medical facilities.
The University will submit a permit application to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
