The Village Nation Partnership

UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) and the “Village Nation” have committed to work together along with other project partners to prepare and provide academic college preparation services and activities for African American students in targeted high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The goals are to narrow the widening achievement gap and increase the college preparation rate of African American students.  Current participating schools in the partnership include Cleveland and Palisades high schools; however, all LAUSD district 1 schools are all invited to participate in the partnership’s annual “K-12 African American Parent Summit”. Together each partner will share resources and areas of expertise to better prepare African American students for a post secondary education and their future. The philosophy of the Village is taken directly from the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  The project relies on the strengths and expertise of the established program partners to address the academic college preparation and social development needs of students by employing a culturally relevant approach.
