About Chef Olivier and Farm House Cafe:
Featuring affordable, rustic country French cuisine, in the heart of University Heights.
Olivier's restaurant experience began 23 years ago as a cook in the Southwest of France. Olivier started cooking 20 years ago as a child in the Loire Valley, France and was inspired by his grandmother who raised 11 children, all the while preparing homemade crepes in the family hearth, and his grandfather who would teach Olivier the fine art of fishing and growing vegetables in the family garden. Olivier always knew that one day he would parlay his world experiences, classic French technique and passion for food and wine into a business opportunity.
Olivier attended culinary school in Saumur, France at age 15 and after graduating he quickly moved up to fine dining and serving at L' Elysee, the French Whitehouse, for President Mitterrand, during his military service. Thereafter, Olivier worked in some of the finest French Michelin starred resorts before moving to work at L’Aventure Restaurant, right next to famed Abbey Road recording studios in London, England, where he cooked for celebrities, movie stars and rock stars throughout his tenure.
Upon reaching American soil, Olivier's worked for some of the finest restaurants in San Diego for over 18 years. For the last seven years Olivier has worked as a personal chef in a private home and with a wonderful family in Rancho Santa Fe, California who encouraged and fostered his culinary education as he obtained his Chocolatier Certificate from world renown Ecole Chocolat in Vancouver, Canada, the World Pastry Forum and Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, ice-cream making courses from California State University at San Luis Obispo, and a visit to New York City’s World Chocolate Show in 2003. His dream of opening his own restaurant finally came true when the Farm House Café opened February 1, 2008.
Rochelle Bioteau started her restaurant career at Il Fornaio Restaurant, Del Mar, in 1989. After 7 years of experiencing authentic regional Italian cuisine, wine and culture, Rochelle moved to downtown San Diego to pursue a paralegal degree at University of San Diego. Old colleagues from Il Fornaio Del Mar opened the Rhone Valley/Southern France inspired restaurant, Laurel Restaurant & Bar, a sister restaurant to North County's Wine Sellar and Brasserie, and Rochelle joined the staff of Laurel in 1997. It is here that her appreciation for fine food and wine pairing soared to new heights while attending law school at University of San Diego.
During a brief hiatus from Laurel Restaurant & Bar, Rochelle met Olivier who was then the executive chef at the newly remodeled Hotel La Jolla's restaurant, Crescent Shores Grill. It was truly love at first bite and their shared dream of owning and running their own neighborhood restaurant was born. Rochelle returned to Laurel Restaurant & Bar and expanded her front of the house knowledge by covering bartending and management positions throughout her tenure until she was offered a partnership position in the law firm of Squires & Sherman, LLP. She is now thoroughly enjoying the challenges of being a general practice attorney by day and restaurateur by night.
