ColdFusion DevCamp Phoenix
Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (PST)
What is ColdFusion DevCamp?
A gathering of people passionate about learning through collaboration. Attendees will work in small teams to code projects ideas from the team members or from a suggested list of projects. This will not be a lecture style event or a traditional classroom with a set curriculum and learning materials. We want you to ask questions, hack away and have fun.
Why ColdFusion DevCamp?
Conferences are often too large, have too many great sessions and not much time for learning by doing. User Groups meetings are often too short to make much progress coding a project and only occur once a month. Based on the BarCamp (iPhoneDevCamp) model we spend the day coding then share what we've built. With all the new features of ColdFusion 9, I can't wait to see the results. Who knows what we might see emerge.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zippo. Free. Gratis. On the house.
No, really... How much does it cost?
See above. Those of us involved with organizing the DevCamp love ColdFusion. We think it's a pretty nice language. We're donating our time (and Gangplank is donating the space) so that we can show others what ColdFusion is capable of. If you're even just a little curious, we urge you to attend. It won't cost you a dime, and we'll even feed you.
What kind of projects can we build?
The short answer is "What ever you want", but here are some categories you could explore. Web applications built with ColdFusion that pull in Google Maps, manipulate images, spreadsheets, PDFs or use the many AJAX features that come with ColdFusion. Mobile Applications built with one of the many iPhone, Palm Pre or Android compatible AJAX libraries powered by ColdFusion. Rich Internet Applications built with Flex, Flash, AIR and ColdFusion.
What Do I Need to Bring?
A computer. We'll spend the first hour or so making sure that you have all of the required apps loaded up... but if you want to be proactive, you can download the Developer's Edition of ColdFusion 9 and the trial version of ColdFusion Builder.
Do you guys have a blog or anything like that?
When & Where
We are a group of connected individuals and small businesses creating an economy of innovation and creativity in the Valley. We envision a new economic engine comprised of collaboration and community, in contrast to the silos and secrecy left by the dependence on tourism and land development.
We have the talent. We just need to work together. Different environments need to overlap, to connect and to interact in order to transform our culture. In order to create a sustainable community based on trust, we value:
- collaboration over competition
- community over agendas
- participation over observation
- doing over saying
- friendship over formality
- boldness over assurance
- learning over expertise
- people over personalities
- This new economy cannot thrive without engaging the larger business, creative, entrepreneurial, governmental, and technical communities together.
We believe that innovation breeds innovation. We will transform the Valley culture into one supportive of the entrepreneurial spirit, of risk taking, of pioneering into the unknown territories as the founders of our municipalities once did. This requires education, entrepreneurship and creative workspaces.
We are Gangplank.
