Event Details

This course will introduce you to the wonderful world of cold process soap making. Have you been afraid to make soap because of your fear of sodium hydroxide (lye)? No need to be scared, sodium hydroxide is the caustic agent that unifies your oils and butters with the liquid lye solution to make soap. Here you will have hands on experience on how to make your first batch of soap. In this course you will learn:

  • Brief history of soap
  • Materials needed and what kind of prep work you need to do before you begin
  • All about sodium hydroxide and the necessary precautions you need to take
  • How to formulate a recipe using an online soap calculator
  • Using natural raw ingredients to produce a natural log of soap
  • After you make the soap, what next? Insulation, gel phase, cutting, curing and storing
  • Proper labeling requirements will be discussed

You will take home with you:

  • A  resource manual with raw ingredient descriptions, recipes and a list of vendors
  • 2  1# batches of soap

Please just bring an apron to class. I will provide safety goggles and gloves.

Prerequisites: NONE

Skill Level: Beginner

The humble beginnings:

Naturally Good Soaps began in 2003 when I started to develop an interest and passion for living natural. My interest was truly sparked when I went to Provence, France in 2004 to study Aromatherapy. In my studies and research I saw that one can make natural soap and body products without the use of harsh chemicals. I couldn’t get enough of the books and classes but the best part is connecting with so many wonderful people I have met along my journey.

Naturally Good Soaps is currently a web based business. All my products are made in small batches to ensure quality control. You will not find any synthetic chemicals, animal by products, parabens, or petroleum based items in my shop. What you will find is quality vegetable oils, herbs, spices and clays as well as using amazing essential oils to provide the aromatic experience. Naturally Good Soaps products are vegan friendly except for the products (2) that are listed to have honey.

I don’t believe in animal testing, but I do believe in testing 100% on humans. I also try to leave a very little imprint on the environment by recycling, reducing and re-using all packaging and materials.

I am a proud member of the Indie Beauty Network (2010) and since 2011 became the NYC IBN Local Director. I also offer classes because I love educating on the benefits of natural cosmetics and the simplicity of making your own products.

I am also the founder of Essence & Aroma (www.essenceandaroma.com). My passion for all things herbal & aromatic led me to create this online directory highlighting all the wonderful herbal & aromatic providers in the Northeast Region.

Since the classes take place in a private home, once you register I will send you address location via email. Please make sure you include your email and phone # to the registration.
