CoderDojo Pembroke Pines - Coding Club for Young People
Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (EST)
Pembroke Pines, FL
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
- We are now in Miami too! If you live in Miami-Dade County join us at two locations: CoderDojoMiami.eventbrite.com and CoderDojoKDL.eventbrite.com
CoderDojo is a free, international, coding club for young people. If you are between the ages of 8 - 17, interested to learn computer prograemming, play with electronics and 3D printing (or are already a Tech Guru) and you are willing to share what you learn with others you can become a club member. No prior programming experience is necessary. There is no cost, just bring a laptop and a parent. We'll be meeting twice a month, the first and third Saturday, to build cool apps, devices and programming skills with creative young people who love playing with computers and sharing what they know with others.
Our format is exploratory and not lecture, although we will have "show and tells" from time to time. Teams will be formed to solve challenges and each team presents what they have built and share how they did it with others. Here is a short video which walks you through our format: http://youtu.be/oiYgexwsPJE . Read what @startropica thinks about our program: http://bit.ly/13pmmct
If you like the idea of creating computer programs to tell a story... perhaps by building a game, or using arduinos/3D printable objects to show how to realize your ideas, then you have found a home. If you know how to program, work with electronics, or know how to make things and want to share what you know with other kids then become a Dojo Mentor. There is a lot of great info at http://coderdojo.com for beginners and mentors alike.
Grab a free ticket and have your parent complete this short survey: http://goo.gl/5Uimd Oh, one more thing. There is only one rule when at CoderDojo: Be cool!

We are a group of tech professionals and students who work and study in South Florida and believe kids should have free and open resources to learn computer programming. We are sponsored by Florida International University School of Computing and Information Sciences.
We have completed our meetings for the season. Look for new meetings in Fall 2014.
