Code Liberation's Web-based Storytelling Series

This course will occur once per week on Wednesdays from July 9th through August 20th. Registering for this course implies that you will be able to attend most (if not all) of the classes.
Designed for women who want to publish original games that are accessible across a multitude of web-enabled devices, this set of classes will share different approaches to web-based game development. We hope to inspire women to find their unique voices within the community by teaching not only game development, but also game design, art, and storytelling. During the course, we will work with Twine and Construct 2 to create simple interactive games, then take a deeper dive into what is possible with 2D games in HTML5 using the Phaser framework.
- 7/9/2014 - Storytelling & Twine Class.
Topics include: generating story ideas, working with Twine, integrating jQuery to create cool interactive effects
- 7/16/2014 - Sound in Games Class by Alyssa Menes.
Topics include: common concepts in sound/game design, how to work with sound designers, intro to creating sounds for games
- 7/23/2014 - Construct 2 Class. Requires Windows.
Topics include: creating a character, event sheets, moving characters, creating enemies, in-game variables, creating a small game
- 7/30/2014 - 2D Game Art Class. Requires an Adobe CC trial.
Topics include: introduction to Photoshop tools, vector shapes, how to create pixel art, timeline animation
Topics include: basic introduction to programming logic & concepts, the uses of Phaser, setting up Phaser
- 8/13/2014 - Phaser Class II.
Topics may include: setting up Phaser, drawing on the screen, moving your player, using variables to keep score, creating win and lose states
- 8/20/2014 - Phaser Class III.
Topics may include: creating environments using tile maps, physics, collision, platforming, creating scenes, adding dialog to your game, polishing your game
Attendees will come away from this workshop with new strategies to integrate into their game design process and functional prototypes.
Code Liberation events are trans-inclusive and women-only. Women of all skill levels and walks of life are invited to attend this set of clases.
