Code Blue

Code Blue is a unique, stark and haunting examination of mortality, sex and compassion, written and directed by Urszula Antoniak. Focusing on a nurse named Marian (Belgian actress Bien de Moor), Code Blue tells a story of extreme solitude in an urban landscape that’s at once magnetic and univiting. As Marian goes to socially unnacceptable extremes in offering relief to her patients, Antoniak dares the viewer with her brave examination of female sexuality. Code Blue is a challenging work that sparked controversy upon its Cannes Film Festival premiere, but also one that continues to fascinate viewers worldwide.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Antoniak.

The Polish-born Urszula Antoniak started her filmmaking career in Holland. Earning recognition with her early work, as well as with the highly acclaimed Nothing Personal, starring Stephen Rea, Antoniak succeeded in creating an audiovisual language all her own. Code Blue, a Dutch-Danish co-production, was not only admitted in the prestigious Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section of Cannes Film Festival, but also earned two Golden Calfs at the Netherlands Film Festival for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Design. Antoniak recently finished a new feature, Nude Area, and is currently developing several projects in her native Poland.

Code Blue, Denmark-Netherlands, 2011. Running time 81 minutes.

The film is presented in its original Dutch language version with English subtitles.

Please note:  the screening will be overbooked and seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

WE THANK OUR PARTNERS: Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, Polish Film Institute, Metropolis Artists Agency, Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Adamba, Stowarzyszenie InterCity, and the Adam M. Bak Foundation.
