Share Code 4 A Cause (MLK Day 2013)

Join us for Code 4 A Cause at the Hype!

If you're looking for something to do in honor of the MLK Day of Service, we invite you to use your tech and business expertise to help a local nonprofit, Drop in the Bucket. These are the projects that we will work on:

1. A web page to allow donors to collaborate to build a well for a school in Africa (South Sudan and/or Uganda) by buying it piece by piece virtually using a shopping cart that has been integrated into a wordpress site.

  • Skills: wordpress, php, jquery/javascript, css, photoshop/wireframes, design

2. Provide insight on out how to improve the UX on this new page they are launching: http://stagingpc.com/dropin/wordpress/stay-involved/

  • Skills: UX, marketing, social media integration

3. A pin pal style Q&A web page to allow kids in American schools to talk back and forth with kids in African schools asynchronously

  • Skills: wordpress, php, jquery/javascript, css, photoshop/wireframes, design

Itinerary for the day

10am-11am: Check-in/get organized.

11am-6pm: Let the designing/coding begin!

11am-noon: UX focus group to brainstorm ways to improve the above website

3pm-4pm: UX focus group to brainstorm ways to improve the above website

6:30pm-7pm: Demonstration of the finished products and presentation of the website improvement ideas

Please RSVP under the expertise that you can contribute. We have two brainstorming sessions for you business experts so if you can't make one, please stop by for the other. We also need one or two UX specialists to lead the brainstorming sessions and organize the feedback of the brainstorming sessions afterwards.

Women Interactive is a tech and media website that actively works to increase the number of women and women of color involved in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) industries.  To further this mission, Women Interactive produces tech based classes, workshops and the Women Interactive Creative Technology Festival.  A social enterprise, a portion of Women Interactive’s proceeds benefits tech based education programs for girls.
