Soprano Pamela Olsen and pianist Eric Olsen join forces for a special concert this season bringing the poetic sounds of piano and voice together among the arts in the intimate Upper Gallery.
Pamela and Eric are both faculty members at Montclair State University. Pamela has sung leading operatic roles including Tosca, Carmen, and Nedda in I Pagliacci, and was soloist in concert at Manhattan’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Eric is a classical and jazz artist who has toured France, Germany, India, New Zealand, and the United States, and recently performed with the Kaohsiung Symphony in Taiwan in a concert of American Music, which was broadcast on PTS, Taiwan’s public television station. Pamela Olsen, MM, LMT, NCBTMB, is an operatic soprano trained at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. She has performed the roles of Dido, Dido and Aeneas; Nedda,Pagliacci; Sieglinde, Die Walküre; Flosshilde, Das Rheingold; and the title roles in Tosca & Carmen with local opera groups. She has also performed in many oratorio and large choral works with orchestra in her role as Alto Section Leader and Soloist at Union Congregational Church in Montclair. She has performed in Germany, Austria, at Carnegie Hall and at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. She and her husband, pianist Eric Olsen perform duo-concerts throughout the tri-state region. Ms. Olsen has taught private voice, music theory and music appreciation at Indiana University, Essex County College, The Newark Community School of the Arts, and Montclair State University. Pamela is also a Licensed Massage Therapist who specialized in taking care of musicians with issues of stress, muscle issues, and energy balance.
Eric Olsen has crafted a distinguished career in both classical and jazz music, as a pianist and organist, composer, conductor, and accompanist. He has recorded ten CD’s, including albums with operatic bass Kevin Maynor and saxophonists George Garzone and Lou Caimano, and collaborated with jazz artists Billy Hart, Tim Horner, and Eliot Zigmund. Reviewers have called him “a top-notch jazz artist” and “…a singer’s dream of a piano accompanist”. Mr. Olsen has performed Gershwin’sRhapsody in Blue and I Got Rhythm Variations (including his own jazz cadenza) with the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan and the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Olsen is an adjunct faculty member at Montclair State University, Director of Music at Union Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ, and has appeared in concert from Carnegie Hall to Birdland, throughout the United States, and overseas in France, Germany, India, and New Zealand.
