Class: Stand Up for Trees
Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (EDT)
Learn how to become an advocate for the trees in your community and turn your knowledge into action by joining Casey Trees' league of Tree Advocates!
In this class, you will learn about the state of DC’s trees, how the local government is organized, and who the key players are that help to manage our trees in public spaces. Then, you will learn techniques for engaging these key District officials and agencies in order to help protect (or even increase!) the tree canopy in your neighborhood and city. Afterwards, you will be able to speak with current Casey Trees’ volunteers and Tree Advocates to learn of their experiences advocating for trees.
Upon completion of this class, you will have the opportunity to join our Tree Advocates group. While we will be focusing on how to be an advocate for the District's trees, residents from outside of Washington will be able to benefit from learning about the challenges of managing an urban forest. This is a Citizen Forester qualifying course.
The Metrorail station is Brookland-CUA (Red Line) which is a 10 minute walk. The Metrobus stop is near the intersection of 12th and Irving Street NE (served by the H8) or the Brookland-CUA Metro station (served by the H2, H4, H6, G8, R4 and 80). At our office, there is ample street parking and we accommodate bicycles on-site.
