Date of Exercise:  Tuesday December 17, 2013

The City of Long Beach’s Department of Health and Human Services will be conducting a full-scale exercise on 12/17/2013. This exercise will focus on the City of Long Beach Public Health Epidemiological Response Team (PHERT) Plan, Crisis and Emergency Risk Communications (CERC) Plan, and relevant portions of response plans from the jurisdictions of Los Angeles County and Orange County, including the Southern California Metropolitan Statistical Area (SoCal MSA) Mitigation Planning and Coordination Framework. This exercise examines the roles and responsibilities of both lead and support agencies identified in these plans. Objectives of the exercise are to:

1.       Demonstrate activation and implementation of the Long Beach PHERT Plan and Department Operations Center (DOC) for detecting an unknown biological agent.

2.       Demonstrate interagency, intra-department, inter-department, and inter-jurisdictional communications and coordination for an epidemiological investigation, including alert notifications according to the SoCal MSA Mitigation Planning & Coordination Framework.

3.       Demonstrate activation and implementation of the Long Beach CERC Plan and SoCal MSA Mitigation Planning & Coordination Framework as related to risk communications for public warning and information.

The day begins with player registration at 8:00 a.m. and a briefing at 8:30 a.m., with the exercise itself taking place between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A hotwash will immediately follow the end of exercise play.
