Event Details

What: A free, weekly class to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam and interview

When: Mondays, 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Where: Lancaster Public Library (125 North Duke Street), Windolph Room (2nd floor)

Website: www.webatomics.com/citizen

This is the fifth session of Citizenship Lancaster, a library-supported adult education program that as helped many students become U.S. citizens since September 2009.

What is the class about?

Citizenship Lancaster reviews and answers all 100 American history and civics questions on the naturalization exam. Students also practice reading and writing, and study interview questions related to the N-400 form. All Citizenship Lancaster students receive a free Welcome Packet containing useful study materials.

Citizenship Lancaster maintains a website that contains the slideshows for each class, audio and video downloads, and lists of local contacts and resources. Link: www.webatomics.com/citizen

Who should attend?

All legal permanent residents interested in U.S. citizenship can attend the class. Students do not need to submit their U.S. citizenship application (Form N-400) prior to starting the class. In fact, many students feel better prepared for the exam if they start coming to the class before submitting their N-400. The class will be open-enrollment, which means students can start attending at any time during the session.

Do students have to know English?

All Citizenship Lancaster students should have a working knowledge of English to participate in the class and pass the naturalization exam. Attending this class will improve students’ English proficiency, especially with interview and exam related vocabulary words, but it is not designed as an ESL substitute.

Who Can Apply for U.S. Citizenship?

>Legal permanent residents (ie. green card holders).

>Continuous residence in the U.S. for 5 years or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen.

>Be of good moral character, and be able to read, write and speak basic English.

Note: There may be exceptions to the above general requirements.  Applicants should consult with USCIS, attorneys or other professionals for additional information as this class and any of its materials will not provide any legal advice unless guest speakers are utilized.
