Are you a mother who has a son or daughter that is currently in jail or prison? If so, you are not alone. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, there are currently over 54,000 men and women in Georgia prisons.
Freedom Outreach presents its next Circle of Mothers Empowered (C. O. M. E.) session, Saturday, June 1, 2013. C.O. M.E. is a support group for mothers with incarcerated children.
As a volunteer of the GA Department of Corrections since 1999, I have met thousands of men and women behind the jail and prison walls. Early on, I was heartbroken when I would meet women with children. One woman whom I will call Dee, was sentenced to eight years in prison. Dee had five children and was in her late twenties. Dee's mother was 68 years old and now responsible for raising her five grandchildren in an effort to keep them from going to the Department of Family and Children Services. It was then that I realized the burden that mothers of those incarcerated have to carry. However, there is help. Don't miss the next C.O.M.E. session, Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. After this session, you will feel encouraged and empowered.
*Please note this is a "private session" and is only open to mothers that currently have a son or daughter who is incarcerated in a jail or prison.
Maybe you don't have a child that is in jail or prison. However, consider sponsoring a registration fee for one of our mothers or giving a generous donation.
