Event Details

A new play by local Nashville playwrights, CINDY&ELLA is based on the ancient pan-cultural fairy tale of Cinderella. But this adaptation is a far cry from the popular Disney cartoon. Cindy&Ella follows three women coping with life in an isolated Oklahoma farming community at the height of the Dust Bowl. The traumatic death of young Cindy Wicket's mother has left her on the brink of madness, and when her manipulative Aunt Eudora arrives claiming ownership of the home a violent battle of wills ensues. Meanwhile, Eudora's daughter Ella must wrestle with her own desperation as she watches her hopes for a future vanishing beneath acres of dead corn and her mother's all-consuming greed. When a handsome young man from Chicago arrives offering to buy the land, the stage is set for a final conflict over control of the homestead and the lives of all who live there.

This show is appropriate for theater audiences 13+ due to strong violence and adult situations.

Nashville Stagecraft is...
A small group of cross-trained artists working in an ensemble environment to develop a repertoire of plays and scenes that range from low-tech / low-overhead shows easily brought to parks and city sidewalks, to fully mounted presentations of original works and time-tested stories that excite us. We strive to create moments of intensely watchable theatre through cross-training, constant research, work with other artists, traditional rehearsals, and lots of experimentation. We do all of this in order to further develop what we consider to be the most fundamental aspect of our art: an actors’ ability to ignite the audience's imagination. Our experiments and explorations are sometimes public and sometimes private; they span the whole range of subjects that interest us: from movement, mime, clowning, and improvisations, to production theory, design, puppetry, and the development of original works.
