About the Children’s TLC Groundhog Run
The Children's TLC Groundhog run, the agency's largest and longest annual fundraiser, was founded in 1982 by Van Cooper, a long-time volunteer and Board member. Since his death in 1991, a memorial award has been given in his name to the first place 10K team. A 5K event was added in 1998 and the first place team received a memorial award honoring Martha Steadman, volunteer, friend and former Board member of Children's TLC.

The Children's TLC Groundhog Run is one of the very few 5K races, and believed to be the only 10K race in the nation that is totally underground. With a consistent temperature of 65 to 68 degrees, the Hunt Midwest SubTropolis is the ideal venue for runners to compete in this annual winter event! The races are sanctioned by the KC Running Company.

About Children’s TLC
The mission of Children’s TLC is to provide therapeutic and educational services for children with disabilities in an environment which fosters their independence and celebrates their successes.

The services and programs at Children’s TLC are here to help children learn to do things we take for granted. Stand, walk, play, swim, run. Our therapists and teachers have been working with children since 1947 to provide evidenced-based therapeutic and educational services in greater Kansas City. We continue to work with children who have a variety of learning delays, disabilities, and/or fragile medical conditions to assist them in developing to their full potential. We start working with children as early as birth, believing that the sooner they start to develop these critical life skills, the more time they have to learn and prepare to be successful. Children’s TLC would not exist without the support of the community.
