Event Details

‘Tis the season of appreciation and celebration in the making of festive holiday decorations, presents and handmade crafts for gifting. Inspired by this year’s Holiday Fair theme, Simply Spirit, the Chicago Waldorf School is focused on the values of sharing and coming together in community for the spirit of the season.

1. Artisanal & Handmade Crafts Vendors Fair Over 30 vendors will sell special handmade crafts and artistic goods all day Saturday in an artisan’s marketplace.

2. Fun Entertainment: Waldorf Students & the All-Star Dads Band Perform 3:00-4:00pm- The nine-piece ALL-STAR DADS BAND plays songs for the whole family – from current hits to classic favorites. Our Holiday Fair has a tradition of the kids rocking out and dancing to the tunes of the All-Star Dads Band. Because they put a smile on everyone’s face and a beat in everyone’s feet, we are SO happy they are going to be returning to the Fair. (5th year reunion of this CWS parent band!) 1:00-2:00 pm- WALDORF STUDENTS play in orchestra, band, vocal ensemble and African drumming performances.

3. Make Toys, Gifts & Natural Handmades; Including Children’s Crafts & Family Activities In the Waldorf tradition that celebrates the value of “crafting” visit our Care to Share table, Children’s House (crafts for 6 yrs. old and under), our school photographer, Brian Warling, will shoot family portraits, there will be jump-rope making, candle-dipping, Waldorf Recycled, a dragon shoot and other favorites will all be there at the fair, along with much more, of course.

4. Share Food in a Communal Meal with Local Food Vendors  11:00am – 1:30pm Simple, delicious, nutritious, hot foods will be served in the gymnasium starting at 11:00am. Also in the gym and the back of the auditorium will be baked goods, which will be available ALL day, along with coffee, water and juice. The gym will be filled with plenty of tables and chairs. Children can run around while grown-ups can enjoy a second cup of coffee while seeing ambient presentations from the school’s Alumni Council and CWS Greenery Table!

Celebrate “Simply Spirit” in the Holiday Season

Every year, the Holiday Fair’s main goal is to be a friend-raiser. We invite the entire Chicagoland community to visit our school to witness the amazing spirit of Waldorf and the power and magic that happens when we work with head, heart, and hands. Our goal for Holiday Fair 2013 is to celebrate that spirit with as much simplicity and joy as we can!

Season’s Greetings everyone, we can’t wait for you to join in the fun…

Chicago Waldorf School

Chicago Waldorf School provides a diverse PreK-12th grade education that supports the development of self-directed young adults dedicated to the pursuit of ongoing learning and eager to contribute positively to the global society of the 21st century. This education is rooted in the ideals, insights and pedagogical methods of Rudolf Steiner.

Chicago Waldorf School is founded upon the central insight of Rudolf Steiner that each human being is comprised of body, soul and spirit and in full maturity is guided by a unique, self-awareness. This conviction informs all aspects of the education and personal relationships within Chicago Waldorf School. It is our core mission and responsibility to help our students develop this deep center of their being as they move from early childhood to adulthood. To this end, the education we offer is designed to appeal to—and nurture—the special capacities that emerge at each stage of the child’s adolescent development.

The relationship between teacher and student is fundamental to the unfolding of the student’s unique identity. Chicago Waldorf School expects its teachers to engage in the study of anthroposophy—the philosophy and pedagogical perspective founded by Rudolf Steiner—and in self-reflective practice in order to hone their imagination and creativity; master their capacity for learning, teaching, and fostering caring relationships; and develop the acuity of their intuition and perceptiveness. The teachers’ willingness to work actively on self-understanding and transformation—as well as to remain current in their subject areas—sustains their knowledge of human development. Their internal self-awareness and external and active participation in the world are essential to the Waldorf model of education and equip them to fulfill the school’s mission and goals.
