Real World Science - Water
Clean water. Nearly one billion people on our planet lack access to
it. That’s the population of the United States... times two and a
If we’re ever going to solve this problem, we’re going to have to
understand it first. Join us on a four week long, hands-on journey
into the world of water led by AP Chemistry Teacher, Science Olympiad
Coach and Current Hackley Teacher, Jason Gilley. Students begin by
exploring the special properties of water at the molecular level. No
text books and chalk boards here. This exploration happens in 3D!
Moving quickly from chemical structures to real life application, our
young scientists construct a working aquifer to better understand how
we get and use ground water. Then they pollute their aquifers and
finally create simple solutions to clean out the pollution, making the
water drinkable once more.
** When your child takes this class, the class is given to a student
in Rwanda who struggles with access to clean water and for whom this
class is particularly important.
Let’s get our kids to love science, feel good about giving back to a
community in need and giving them an opportunity to make friends with
a student acorss the globe!
This class will meet Mondays at 5:00pm on April 22nd, 29th and May 6th.
