Since President Clinton signed the federal Family and Medical Leave Act into law, guaranteeing up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave for urgent family issues such as the arrival of a new child or serious illness of an aging parent, the law has been used more than 100 million times. But FMLA provides only unpaid leave, which means too many people still cannot afford to take the time they need to care for themselves or a loved one.
Today, the United States is one of only four countries in the world that doesn’t guarantee workers any paid leave. To mark the 20th anniversary of FMLA, we are gathering to celebrate its twentieth birthday - but with the understanding that there is much more to be done for working people and families in New York. Please come and show your support for making New York the next and fourth state to win Family Leave Insurance.
Come and meet federal and state officials who have championed the issue of family leave.
