Health 2.0 New Orleans and Team Gleason will host the “Cheers for Charity” fundraiser at the Rusty Nail, 1100 Constance Street, from 4pm to 8pm. Tickets for the event may be purchased for $20 online or $30 at the door. Admission includes crawfish, beer, raffles, live music from Johnny Angel and Helldorado, and opportunities to hear from healthcare technology experts and local leadership from Health 2.0 and Team Gleason. This event has been generously sponsored by Bellwether Technology.
Tulane biomedical engineering students will also demonstrate the assistive technologies they invented during a yearlong capstone project focused on addressing real world problems. The featured inventions are an eye-tracking system for hands-free control of a motorized wheelchair, an automatic tracheotomy suctioning device for people on ventilator support, and a patient-monitoring system for reducing ventilator-associated pneumonia. Steve Gleason inspired and contributed to the direction of these projects, which the students began following a catalyzing meeting with Steve in late-2012.
All proceeds will benefit The Gleason Initiative Foundation. The Gleason Initiative Foundation helps individuals with neuromuscular diseases with new technologies; raises public awareness by documenting extraordinary life adventures for individuals with muscular diseases or injuries; and creates a global conversation about ALS to ultimately find solutions and an end to the disease.
