When & Where
Charis Jones of JC1VOICE Entertainment and Monumental Sports & Entertainment
Born on May 3, 1986 in Washington, DC singer/songwriter Charis Jones began her musical journey around the age of 5. Her unique charisma and talents were soon noticed by her mother, and then discovered by her godfather the late Rev. Donald Vails. Upon which, he introduced Charis to several prominent gospel artists such as Donnie McClurkin, The Clark Sisters, Kirk Franklin and many more. After such encounters, Charis furthered her musical talents by accompanying The Ebenezer AME Church Mass choir in recording their CD, and singing with the Praise Team. With the help of Rev. Vails and much support from her parents, Charis went on to build a very successful foundation for her music career at a young age.
Eventually, Charis decided it was time to focus more on her academic career. Charis attended Xavier University of Louisiana to receive her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. However, due to Hurricane Katrina and its extensive damage, those plans were altered. Yet, she was given the opportunity to continue her schooling in Philadelphia at Drexel University.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Drexel with her degree in Psychology and minor in Chemistry, while also receiving a Certificate in Health Science, English and Philosophy; Charis returned to her first love; singing and performing. She was determined to balance this love while also acquiring her Master's in Public Health. It was not uncommon for her to have to write a 25 page paper, and then have to go sing at a jazz club, like LaRose.
With this new focus and commitment Charis managed to take Philly by storm in 2009-2010. During this momentum, Charis spent her time understanding the music business and acquired great assistance in developing her business from the Philadelphia Lawyers for the Arts. Charis established and is the CEO of JC1VOICE Entertainment, which markets her talents as an entertainer, actor and health advocate. However, she took a 4 year sabbatical to further determine what she wanted in life musically, spiritually and professionally. But by 2014, she realized that she did not need to choose one or the other, but instead, she could have it all.
Her music genre is all-encompassing with focuses on a neo-soul feel and an R&B, pop and funk sound. She is inspired by several genres of music and artists that include but are not limited to: Gospel, Jazz, Funk, Japanese Pop, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, Donald Vails, Mint Condition, Tweet, and Erykah Badu.
Some of Charis’s performance venues consist of: Iguana Club in NYC; Indulj and Bohemian Caverns in Washington, DC, Marathon Grill, World Cafe Live, Relish Restaurant, LaRose, Reuben Marc Jazz Club, Drexel University, and Philly LivePod. She is also consistently booked to provide entertainment at private events, such as weddings and parties.
As soon as you hear Charis, you will be captivated by her stage presence, melodic tone and ability to make a song her own.
