Congratulations on passing the July 2012 California Bar Examination! We look forward to celebrating with you, your family and friends at our annual admissions ceremony and reception on Tuesday, December 4.
Candidates for admission should arrive at 5:00 p.m. to complete the requisite paperwork. The swearing in ceremony will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapman Auditorium in Memorial Hall, where Judge Cormac J. Carney and Judge James E. Rogan will be present to swear in the recent graduates. We hope that you and your guests will join us for refreshments and hors d'ouvres in the Donald P. Kennedy Hall lobby immediately following the ceremony.
As a feature of the ceremony, you will be admitted to the California State Bar and the United States District Court, Central District of California. If you would like to be admitted to the local federal court, please complete and bring the federal application form and admission fee to the ceremony. The application is available online at http://apps.cacd.uscourts.gov/baradm/prerequisites.aspx.
It is extremely important that you bring the California State Bar admission card that you will receive in the mail. You will need the admission card that you will receive in your packet of materials from the California State Bar in order to be sworn in by the judge. The California State Bar will mail your application materials directly to you. Chapman cannot provide you with the application materials for the California State Bar. After the ceremony, we will process the federal and state applications and send them to the respective courts on your behalf. You cannot be sworn into the Federal Court until you have been sworn into the State Bar. This card can also be picked up at the Los Angeles Office of Admissions located at 1149 South Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015 with a notarized letter.
Please note, personal checks are NOT accepted. Please obtain a cashier’s check, certified bank check, business or corporate check, government issued check, or money order drawn on a major American bank or the United States Postal Service, payable to “Clerk U.S. District Court." As of October 2012, the admission fee for lawyers admitted to the California Bar for less than three years is $226. The admission fee for lawyers admitted to the California Bar for three or more years is $276.
