Changing Trends in Emergency Management: Social Media & Mental Health
CESA-Southern Chapter is pleased to present our Spring Workshop. This workshop will cover some changing trends that are circulating throughout Emergency Management.
Using Social Media In Disasters: Social media has become a part of daily life for many individuals. As such, social media is now ingrained into disaster response and recovery. Mary Jo Flynn from Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department will be discussing how to use social media in disasters. Beyond “how to use” social media, this presentation will cover how to monitor social media to develop situational awareness and where social media belongs in the EOC. The presentation will also cover lessons learned from actual incidents where social media has played a key role.
Resiliency: Trauma Event Management from Mental Health: Victims displaced or impacted by disasters frequently need mental health services. Often under planned for or misunderstood by Emergency Managers, this presentation will discuss the services mental health professionals deliver during and following disasters. This presentation will also draw from case studies from the Japan and Chile earthquakes discussing new trends and challenges.
