Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Training


The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) training class is a two-day learning experience that provides students a full immersion into Agile principles and the concepts and practices that define the Scrum framework.


The class is presented in a highly interactive and collaborative format with elements of lecture, classroom discussion, exercises, games, simulations, and video interwoven throughout the class.


Upon completion of the class, students will be eligible to take the Certified ScrumMaster evaluation and become Certified ScrumMasters. This course also allows the students to claim 14 Project Management Institute (PMI) Professional Development Units (PDUs) which can be applied to Project Management Professional (PMP) and PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certifications.

This course is appropriate for all members of the project team including developers, testers, analysts, project managers, etc. This course is also great for functional managers and executives who are interested in Agile methodologies and process improvement.


Course Outline


The Excella CSM training uses Scrum to teach Scrum. Listed below is the ordered Product Backlog for the class. The class is run using 4 half-day Sprints. Sprint Planning is used to identify the Sprint Goals and key learning modules for each Sprint. The Task Board and Burndown charts are used to create transparency and track progress to completion. Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives ensure students are engaged in a great learning environment.

Fadi Stephan is a consultant with Washington DC-based Excella Consulting. Fadi has more than fifteen years of professional experience as a product manager, project manager, software developer, and consultant at businesses ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Since 2006, his focus has been on agile adoption and on transitioning, coaching, and mentoring teams in agile practices. Fadi is a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), Project Management Professional (PMP), an Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), and a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP). Fadi is founder and organizer of the DC Agile Engineering Conference, founder of the DC Software Craftsmanship user group, and organizer of the DC Scrum user group.

Registration is now open. Classes on both days will take place from 9am – 5pm at Arlington Tech eXchange (ATX) in the Navy League Building at 2300 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia (located at the Courthouse Metro stop on the Orange Line). Parking is available in the Navy League Building and will be validated. Light breakfast will be available at 8:30am each day and lunch will also be provided.


Cancellation Policy


Students submitting cancellation requests 5 business days or more prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund. Students submitting cancellation requests less than 5 business days prior to the start of the course will be issued credit toward a future Excella training course. The credit will be equal to the amount paid for the initial course less any applicable fees. Should the organizer cancel the course for any reason, each registered students will be refunded 100% of the registration cost he/she paid.
