Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) for Managers Training

As one of the largest and fastest-growing agile frameworks, Scrum is a simple, yet powerful way to boost team productivity, elevate quality, and accelerate project delivery.  But, simple as it is, getting Scrum working in your environment can be hard to do.  Contrary to what some of the myths may be telling you, managers are key to making Scrum work.

Our CSM for Managers course offers a detailed examination of Scrum from the perspective of management.  What is the role of the manager in Scrum? How do you help your Scrum teams succeed in an environment that may or may not be ready for it?  How do you effectively coach and manage “self-organizing” teams?

WORKSHOP BENEFITS

Upon completion of the CSM for Managers workshop, you will

  • Understand the Scrum framework inside and out
  • Clearly understand your role, and increase your confidence, in leading and facilitating your Scrum implementation;
  • Know how you can best support the growth and development of your Scrum teams;
  • Have a set of tools and practices for sustainably resolving blocks and challenges that impede team and organizational performance;
  • Become the kind of leader that is needed in forging broader organizational change to truly leverage the potential of Scrum in your organization;
  • Create a clear path for your development as an agile leader.

Additional benefits also include:

  • Eligibility to test and apply for the CSM.
  • Ability to apply for 1 PDU per contact hour with the Project Management Institute
  • Satisfaction of two-thirds of the 21 required training contact hours for the PMI-ACPSM (Agile Certified Practitioner) as well as a strong foundation for the associated certifying exam

WORKSHOP TOPICS

The Scrum Framework

A detailed examination of the the Scrum project lifecycle, ScrumMaster and Product Owner role, the practices and ceremonies of Scrum, and the essential support structures of a Scrum team, and how Scrum fits within the larger release and product planning life cycle.

Essentials of Supporting Agile Teams

At the heart of effective Scrum delivery is the Scrum team itself, and providing direct support to the emergence of effective Scrum teams is of paramount importance.  This often requires, what are for many, new skills and practices.  Topics will include:

  • The Basics of Groups and Team Dynamics
  • Getting Started Right: The Fundamental Needs of an Agile Team
  • Getting to the Next Level: Supporting the Growth of Self-organizing Teams
  • Coaching Agile Teams
  • Uncovering and Resolving the Friction between Needs of a Self-organizing Agile team and the Current Needs of Management

Creating Agile Environments

Scrum teams work within, and their performance is determined by, the organizational environment in which they work.  Supporting the emergence of effective Scrum teams means designing and adjusting aspects of that environment in order to facilitate frictionless agile delivery.  Topics include:

  • A method for addressing the deeper issues that underlie impediments to effective team delivery
  • Identifying and influencing stakeholders who are key to your change effort
  • Socializing principles of agility in ways that generate engagement across the organization
  • Determining a strategy for your agile transition
  • Principles and Basic Practices for Leadership Agility
  • At the heart of the Agile leader’s effectiveness is their capacity for agility in the ways in which they lead and manage and the mental models they bring to that task.  Topics include:
  • Being better able to influence others in ways that foster collaboration and partnership
  • Balancing authoritative with facilitative styles of leadership
  • Working as a leadership and management
  • Facilitating an environment of organizational learning and continuous improvement

Moving Forward: Creating Structures for Fulfillment

Building upon and advancing the insights and learning of this workshop requires more than a mere ‘Next Steps’ conversation.  What is needed is the creation of structures that will support your forward movement.  In this final workshop session, we provide tools for sustained forward movement in your work as agile leaders.
