When & Where
The Barn Buddy Program at Save the Horses, started serving foster/adopted children in early 2013 and added our new director, Rebecca Miller in February 2014. Rebecca is social worker and horse trainer from Vermont. She received her Bachelors degree of Social Work in 2010 from the University of Vermont. Rebecca was employed at Northeastern Family Institute as a Post Adoption Case Manager. It was during her work with adopted children that she realized the correlations between how to therapeutically intervene with children surviving with trauma and how to train horses using natural horsemanship. Now in Georgia, Rebecca is developing her dream building the Barn Buddy Program. Rebecca meets with families to enroll their children by completing an intake assessment and creating an individualized plan of care highlighting personalized goals for each participant. Since Rebecca started with the program it has developed from a program with two volunteers serving two children to a program with 20 volunteers and 16 foster/adopted participants.
