About Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques
The Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) is a fundamental research centre created in 1958 by Léon MOTCHANE, where freedom of research and spontaneous interactions are the core values. Dedicated to mathematics and theoretical physics, it also promotes a multidisciplinary approach and recently engaged in activities at the interface of mathematics and biology as well as new fields of research linked to high technology.
IHÉS welcomes a few permanent professors (mathematicians and theoretician physicists), about the same number of long-time CNRS visitors and each year around 200 to 250 researchers of French or foreign institutions who are invited for research visits. Thanks to its permanent professors, IHÉS has been awarded numerous international rewards including 7 Fields medals.
Friends of IHES, Inc. is a charitable 501 (c) (3) organization created in 1999. Its primary goals are: to increase the visibility of IHÉS (Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques) in the United States; to coordinate the network of current and former American visiting scholars to the Institute; to raise funds for IHÉS.
