Celebrate Latino Heritage month with KQED!
KQED is thrilled to host a double film screening to commemorate Latino Heritage Month at the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza with a FREE screening of Mariachi High and Tales of Masked Men. Tales of Masked Men is part of PBS VOCES, the only Latino anthology series on public television devoted to exploring and showcasing the best of Latino culture.
Mariachi High documents a year in the life of competitive high school mariachi musicians in the top-ranked ensemble Mariachi Halcon in the small border town of Zapata, Texas -- a flash point for the complex issues facing the fastest-growing ethnic group in the US. Tales of Masked Men explores “Lucha Libre” and its role in Latino communities in the United States and Mexico.
This event is sponsored by Latino Public Broadcasting, Councilman Xavier Campos, Mexican Consul office of San Jose,Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival and Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley.
