Event Details

Join us for a birthday celebration honoring Dr. Milton Friedman on Thursday, July 31st, hosted by Liberty on the Rocks.

To honor Milton Friedman's unmatched ability to communicate ideas, we'll be holding a communication competition in addition to showing a short video. **First place winner will receive $100; 2nd place gets $50**

Dr. Milton Friedman was known for many things - fighting economic regulations, drug prohibition, helping get rid of the draft, etc - but none of his life's work would have made much of a difference had he not been blessed with the uncanny ability to explain economic concepts and the philosophy of liberty in a way that anyone could understand. No matter the venue, no matter how hostile the crowd, Dr. Friedman clearly, concisely, and persuasively communicated liberty to the masses in ways that few could.

The Contest:

Participants in the competition must deliver their best Milton Friedman impression by clearly, concisely, and persuasively communicating one of these three concepts:

1) Milton was aware of the dangers of drug abuse, but more importantly, he was aware of the dangers of drug prohibition. For years he warned that prohibition was a cure worse than the disease. Doing your best Milton Friedman, explain why the drug war is not a solution for drug abuse in a society.

2) Milton was truly a champion of the people. He fought tirelessly for a market free of government-created obstacles for workers and entrepreneurs. Like Milton did, give a passionate plea for a market free from occupational and professional licensing.

3) Milton was perhaps best known for his monetary insights. He explained what inflation was and its dangers - especially to the poor - in a way that few could. Channeling your inner Milton, explain what inflation is and why it's so lethal for a healthy economy.

1st Place: $100 visa gift card
2nd Place: $50 visa gift card
