A West Coast premiere!!!.. A story of love and revenge!!!

Set in Colonial Havana, this Zarzuela sutured with Afro- Cuban tones and cadences, portrays the story of a beautiful mulatto girl who falls in love with a white aristocrat.

Originally from Spain, Zarzuela is a lyric- dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporing operatic and popular songs styles as well as dances.  The names comes from a Royal hunting lodge, (the Palacio de la Zarzuela ) near Madrid ,situated in a remote countryside thick with zarzas or brambles. where  King Philip IV of Spain, Queen Mariana and their court attended the first performance of this type of entertainment.

All Performances of Cecilia Valdés will be in Spanish. with supertitles in English.
