MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THIRD THURSDAY

JANUARY 19TH, 5:00-7:00 P.M.

AT THE COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL OF CAMBRIDGE

245 BENT STREET, CAMBRIDGE, MA

A different kind of innovation in Kendall Square:

Just as Kendall Square’s titans of biotechnology, real estate development, creativity, communications, and finance excel at innovation in their respective fields, a tiny charter school has quietly demonstrated it can excel at innovation in the field of education— reaching, teaching, and improving the lives of its students and sending them all to college. Closing the achievement gap is not theory, but practice at Community Charter School of Cambridge.

And Google, enthusiastic about CCSC’s innovative use of data collection and analysis to drive instruction and curriculum, is helping to shine a spotlight on the school, its faculty, and its students. This Third Thursday is an opportunity for the local tech community to become engaged and explore how we can  collaborate more effectively to promote and inspire students to work in technology and related fields.

More about CCSC:

In just seven short years, Community Charter School of Cambridge has established itself as the area’s premier college preparatory program for 7th-12th grade students. An innovative curriculum rich in the sciences, mathematics, and the Humanities instills in students a realization that a high school diploma is merely the first step to a successful life and that college graduation is the true goal. CCSC has found no barrier to academic success when a rigorous, engaging curriculum is in place and smart, dedicated, and caring educators are at the helm.

And so it is each year that hundreds of families from across Greater Boston flood the school with applications for enrollment in the coming school year. They are  desperate for an academic environment in which teachers take the time to know their children, prevent them from falling through educational cracks and into an abyss of unskilled labor, and foster in each child a hunger for learning, a drive for academic success, and a yearning for a better and richer life.

These families are aware of CCSC’s reputation:  They know that every member of CCSC’s three senior classes has entered college, heading to institutions such as University of Massachusetts, Cornell, Boston College, Denison, Wheaton, Dartmouth, Bucknell, and many others.  They know that nearly all of CCSC’s graduates receive significant financial aid, and most have earned sizable scholarships. In 2011, that aid and scholarship totaled more than $455,000 for the 2011-12 college year and promises of $1.7 million over four years.

JOIN US ON JANUARY 19TH FOR A GREAT KSA THIRD THURSDAY!
