Catch Him if You Can: A Luncheon with Frank Abagnale, Jr.

Friday September 6, 2013

11:30am - 1:30pm

$35

701 Whaley Street, Columbia SC 29201

Over 40 years ago, Mr. Abagnale was known as one of the world’s most famous confidence men.  Between the ages of 16 and 21, he successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a college professor and a pediatrician, in addition to cashing $2.5 million in fraudulent checks in every state and in 26 foreign countries.

Working with the FBI for the past 30 years, he is now known as one of the world’s most respected authorities on identity theft, forgery, embezzlement and secure documents.

Mr. Abagnale is waiving his speaker fee for SCVAN in recognition of our groundbreaking work to combat identity theft in our state. This luncheon will serve as a fundraiser to help SCVAN continue to provide crucial services to ID Theft victims.

 Hosted by

 The SC Victim Assistance Network

The SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED)

 and

 The SC Sheriff's Association

During this luncheon, dignitaries will attend to honor the life of Assistant US Attorney Dean Eichelberger, our state’s premier Prosecutor of ID Theft criminals. Dean was instrumental in helping SCVAN develop our Statewide ID Theft Coalition, and it is fitting that we honor him and his work during this esteemed event. Join us on September 6, 2013 for this unique opportunity!

South Carolina Victim Assistance Network

The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN) was established in 1984 to serve as a statewide “umbrella agency” providing coordination for all groups across the state assisting crime victims.  SCVAN provides an array of services to any person who has suffered from a criminal act, and to their families. SCVAN serves over 1,500 crime victims each year.

In 2011, SCVAN began groundbreaking work to combat Identity Theft, our Nation’s fastest-growing crime.  We developed the SC Identity Theft Coalition, comprised of members of over 30 organizations, to raise our state’s ability to identify, investigate and prosecute identity theft cases, serve victims, and provide crucial information to protect the public.

Ironically, funding for this crucial mission ended on October 1, 2012 – just weeks before the SC Department of Revenue announced one of the largest computer hacking operations in U.S. history, a crime that victimized millions of South Carolinians.

This fundraiser will enable SCVAN to continue this vital work.
