Event Details

Have you ever seen an editorial cartoon in a newspaper and laughed out loud? Do you wish you could own a cartoon like that? Well, here’s an opportunity for you to display one on your wall at a fraction of its value, and you’ll be helping out two wonderful causes at the same time. See our full website at cartoonsandcocktails.org for even more background information and our wonderful promotional video!

Founded in 1988, Cartoons and Cocktails is the largest annual auction of editorial cartoons in the United States. Professionals like you from all over the country are now the proud owners of unique, original hand-drawn or printed/signed cartoon art with final bids ranging from as low as $10. Renowned American and international cartoonists donate their work to the auction each year. They include Pulitzer-Prize winners Tony Auth, Steve Breen, Mark Fiore, Tom Toles, Signe Wilkinson and many others.

Your ticket gives you access to the silent and live auctions, impressive food spread, one free drink ticket (cash bar if you want more!) and a bid paddle. You will have the opportunity to stroll the room and inspect the highly-collectible cartoons before the silent and live auctions begin. And don’t forget to introduce yourself to the several cartoonists, live in action, drawing the special Art-In-Action posters, also to be auctioned off to the highest bidders. Or for a special keepsake, have your image hand-drawn by our caricature artist.

You will probably recognize some of the cartoons being auctioned. Many of them were published in major newspapers and magazines. They cover the major news events of the year and are highly prized by collectors. What better way to remember the year than via a cartoon!

This year's event will be held in the historic National Press Club's Main Ballroom.

So join us and help raise money for two amazing non-profit programs - Young D.C. and the Cartoonist Rights Network International – benefitting local teens learning leadership and professional skills and cartoonists around the world being persecuted for their craft. And be assured that this will be a fun-filled evening!

Young D.C.

Young D.C. is an independent, teen-produced newspaper that reaches up to 25,000 readers with each issue. The paper and its website give voice to a diverse group of teen journalists from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia as they experience hands-on media training from journalists and communication professionals. This 24-year-old nonprofit organization also hosts internships and job-shadowing opportunities for high school and college students.

A modest portion of the proceeds also goes to organizaitons that represent working cartoonists, such as
the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (a professional group concerned with promoting the interests of staff, freelance and student editorial cartoonists; it’s “Cartoons in the Classroom” program aids educators at all academic levels in teaching current events, economics, history and social studies), Cartoonists Rights Network International (a U.S.-based nonprofit organization devoted to helping editorial cartoonists around the world who face censorship, imprisonment, intimidation – sometimes death – due to their commentary) or the National Cartoonists Society.
