Take this workshop as your first step in becoming a CAPPA Certified Teen Educator (CCTE)!

Individuals from various backgrounds will benefit from the Teen Educator Training Workshop, such as:

  • Nurses and other support staff (L&D, Mother/Baby, NICU, Pediatrics)
  • Childbirth Educators

  • Public Health Staff

  • Social Workers
  • Teachers
  • La Leche League Leaders
  • Physicians and Midwives
  • Breastfeeding Support Group Leaders
  • Anyone supporting teen mothers during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and parenting


In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Adolescent Development including:
    • Developmental tasks of normal adolescence
    • Potential areas of conflict due to pregnancy
  • Teen sexuality and pregnancy - the statistics
  • Teen sexual relationships
  • Special issues of teen pregnancy including:
    • The link between sexual abuse and teen pregnancy
    • The link between lesbian/questioning youth and teen pregnancy
    • Teen risk-taking
    • Implications for the childbirth educator
  • Working with teens
  • Teaching strategies
  • Important topics for teen childbirth education classes
  • And more!


Certified Teen Educators:

  • Are able to enhance the support they already provide (doulas, childbirth or parenting educators, nurses, social workers, etc.)
  • Teach in a variety of settings: public, private, hospital, clinical, community, school
  • Lead teen parent support groups and provide phone support
  • Offer non-biased education to the community, families, and professionals
  • Understand the necessity of advocacy and support for teen mothers
  • Offer encouragement and an experienced point of view
  • Foster the teen mother's confidence

Cancellation/refund policy:

  • If the workshop is cancelled by Kay Miller, attendees have the option of receiving a full refund or transferring to another workshop with Kay. 
  • If the attendee cancels, a refund will not be given. Attendee has the option of transferring to another workshop held by Kay within 12 months of the original course date (only with written approval from Kay). Only one registration transfer is allowed, and a $50 transfer fee will be charged. 
  • No-shows are not eligible for registration transfers. 
  • Non-refundable travel reservations should not be made until Kay has confirmed the workshop (usually at least two weeks prior to the workshop start date).

Kay Miller LPN, CLD, CCCE, CLE, CCTE, CHT

Kay has over 16 years experience in the perinatal profession. She is certified through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association) as a Labor Doula, Childbirth Educator, Lactation Educator, and Teen Educator. Kay serves as Executive Director of Operations for CAPPA, and is faculty for the Teen, Lactation, and Childbirth Educator programs. She is a nurse, and is currently working towards earning her IBCLC credentials.
