Cal Poly Alumni - Cal Poly Railroad Day at the Swanton Pacific Ranch

The annual Cal Poly Railroad Day celebration will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Sunday, September 27, at Cal Poly’s Swanton Pacific Ranch in Davenport, Calif., 10 miles north of Santa Cruz. There will be train rides, tours and demonstrations of the ranch facilities, and a Santa Maria-style barbecue. Ride Cal Poly’s Swanton Pacific Railroad; the one-third scale, steam-powered train will offer free rides from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The barbecue lunch will be served around noon. The event honors College of Agriculture alumnus Al Smith, who left the 3,200-acre, $20 million Swanton Pacific Ranch to Cal Poly when he died in 1993. The ranch serves as an extension of Cal Poly’s instructional programs in agriculture, forestry and other disciplines. Tickets include the barbecue and unlimited train rides.
