About the Butterfly Program
The Butterfly Program, originally founded by Porter Hospice of Centura Health at Home and Children’s Hospital Colorado, has filled a unique and relatively empty niche in the Denver metropolitan community since 1999. Children and their families contending with serious illnesses are able to access supportive services including nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and expressive therapy while receiving curative and therapeutic medical interventions aligned with their goals of care. The focus of the program is solely on the quality of life for the child, and their families.
The Butterfly Program admits children equitably on the basis of need, not the ability to pay for services. Community support has a profound impact to help provide care to these children including counseling, chaplain visits and bereavement services which are not reimbursed.
