#BurytheRatchet: A Revolutionary Pro-Sisterhood Campaign
Launching April 30th – Georgia State University, Atlanta GA.

Who pays the price for the guilty pleasure of the fleet of black girl train wrecks running through the media?

#BuryTheRatchet is a critical community conversation series lead by Image Activist Michaela Angela Davis, about the cultural costs of extreme and frequent consumption of emotionally and physically violent images of women of color in the media and it’s effects on the psyche of our girls and the global perception of black and brown American women. In addition, it is an image campaign where women proclaim their self-respect and reclaim the respect of their sisters.

#BuryTheRatchet is a national campaign, primarily hosted on college campuses and community and cultural institutions, yet it is strategically being launched in Atlanta GA., as there is an unusual attention on the women of this region in reality television for “ratchet” aka aggressive and violent behavior (Real Housewives of Atlanta, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, Bad Girls Club Atlanta with several more in development). The goal is to engage the community in constructive dialogue about in the dearth of other images of women of color in mainstream media, particularly in groups, if and how these pervasive portrayals negatively effect the relationships between women and girls (bullying) romantic relationships (domestic/dating violence) and their relationship with the world.
