About the Series
Integrated care: you've probably heard the term, and are aware of the significant changes occurring in today's health care landscape. More than ever, behavioral health clinicians will need to adapt services to fit an integrated care model, and forge new partnerships with health practitioners of all disciplines.

We invite you you to join Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago for a 4-part series on building a thriving practice in a new era of integrated care. Learn strategies from experts on the cutting-edge of the the health care movement on topics from patient treatment to strategic partnership building with other practitioners. A new era in health care is here--are you ready to for it?

Session 1: Integrated Care: The Changing Health Care Landscape

Friday, August 22nd


This session will serve as an introduction to the series and focus on:

  • An overview of changes in health care policy that are driving the move to integrated care
  • Defining integrated care and how it will affect clinical practice
  • An introcution to specific models of treatment that focus on holistic wellness through integrated care

Learning Objectives
  1. Participants will have an understanding of the impact of the ACA on the mental health field.
  2. Participants will have a basic understanding of integrative care and its relationship to the ACA.
  3. Participants will have an understanding of the need to be strategic in adapting to the changing healthcare climate.
  4. Participants will understand the basic components of a wellness/positive psychology intervention that can complement and support medical practices.


Session 2: Putting Stress to Work for You; A New Perspective on Wellness. 
Friday, September 19th

This session will focus on one of the most wide-spread issues affecting patients in both the medical and behavioral health setting: stress. The APA reported that stress “is becoming a public health crisis.” We as behavioral health providers are strategically trained and positioned to improve quality of life for patients by addressing the root issue of chronic stress. Focusing on the work of Dr. Lissa Rankin, this session will provide a new perspective on stress management, how clients can put their stress to work for them, and even include an experiential training component.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn approaches of Dr. Lissa Rankin, MD, that can help clients they have now in their psychotherapy practices.

  • Participants will have an understanding how pain, stress, and failure can fuel health and healing for clients

  • Particpants will develop competency in new interventions for stress management to use in their clinical practice.

  • Session 3: Strategies for Sustainability in an Era of Integrated Care. October 17th, 1:30-3:30pm
  • Session 4: My Community, My Model; Panel Discussion on Models of Implementation. November 21st, 1:30-3:30pm

About the Presenters

Susy Francis, PsyD, MBA

Dr. Francis has served as the Executive Director of Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago for 10 years. She is a bilingual (Spanish) psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with students, families, and individual adults in a variety of settings. Her passion is creating access to quality mental health resources for people of all socio-economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. She has been featured on Moody Radio, ABC’s Windy City Live, First Business News Network, and other media outlets to provide relevant insights for listeners/viewers on a variety of topics. She had the honor of being selected as one of CBS's "Women to Know" in January 2014.

Dr. Francis is a frequent presenter at educational, business, and religious institutions and trains over 1000 people every year on topics like workplace performance enhancement, parenting, and healthy relationships. She also serves as an executive consultant to organizations in a variety of fields.

Earned her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she is currently an adjunct faculty. She earned her MBA from North Park University. As Executive Director, she is overseeing the transition to DSM 5 and ICD 10 compliance for a staff of 15 therapists and is responsible for teaching DSM 5 and ICD coding to her students as an adjunct faculty.

Eva Ponder, PsyD, LCSW

Dr. Ponder serves as the Clinical Director of Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago. She has over 20 years of experience working with diverse populations. As the Clinical Director, Dr. Ponder is overseeing the transition to DSM 5 diagnoses among a staff of 15 clinicians. She has been responsible for the implementation of outcome measurements in clinical practice and has presented on this in clinical settings.

Dr. Ponder was a collaborating investigator to the DSM 5 through her participation in DSM 5 field trials. While she has a broad range of clinical experience, she is especially interested in working with clients recovering from traumas, dealing with boundary and relationship issues, and parenting issues. She also provides marital and pre-marital therapy.

Dr. Ponder has been working with cases of trauma for over 15 years. She is trained in EMDR, an evidence based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that has been proven to be highly effective.

Dr. Phillip Zediker, Ph.D

Dr. Phillip Zediker is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, C-U. He holds membership in the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the Catholic Theological Society of America, and the National Register of Health Care Providers in Psychology. With a private practice at Community Counseling Services and Associates in Bradley, Illinois, he is also the author of: "The Wealth of Galaxies: Planetary Psychology and the Cosmic Epic Drama Dance"; "Science, God, and Civilization" published in the National Catholic Reporter; "Dance Out Your Dreams"; and co-author of "The Wellness Project Manual".

Dr. Zediker uses a Design Science Model of Systems Thinking to explore the future of psychology and how psychologists can be world-changers, pioneers, and point persons for grassroots transformation and a world that works for everyone. He especially researches 4D people, dreamers, discovers, and dynamos who dance with the field, putting reason and logic to work for love, living the 4th dimension.

Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago is a faith-based, not-for-profit (501(c)3) mental health agency, providing exceptional counseling and personal development services to individuals all of all ages, couples, and families. Our therapists incorporate evidence-based cutting edge tools into their work with clients and every client receives individualized care based on their needs and goals. Our vision is to make our services accessible to the community, which is why we partner with Chicago area schools, businesses, churches, and other community organizations to provide professional development trainings, seminars and workshops, as well as academic counseling groups for students. We have been practicing in the Near North neighborhood of Chicago for over 40 years and are also an APA (American Psychological Association) approved training site for Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level psychology students.
