Event Details

Join Babson’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL), Graduate Center for Career Development, and Liberty Mutual for an evening of strategic networking with Babson MBAs, mentors, and alumnae. The evening will focus on how to build your career by leveraging support from mentors, coaches and sponsors, and will feature a networking activity, Ted-talk style presentation from mentoring expert and Babson professor Wendy Murphy, and panel discussion moderated by CWEL’s Executive Director Susan Duffy. Professor Murphy will share insights from her book, Strategic Relationships at Work: Creating your circle of mentors, sponsors, and peers, and following, the panel discussion will feature three women leaders of Liberty Mutual, highlighting their personal experience building and leveraging developmental networks. The evening will conclude with Q & A from the audience. Light refreshments served.

6:15 – 6:30 p.m. Ted-Talk Style Presentation with Babson Professor Wendy Murphy, Insights from her Upcoming Book: Strategic Relationships at Work

Wendy Murphy

Wendy Marcinkus Murphy is an Assistant Professor of Management with teaching responsibilities in organizational behavior for both undergraduate and graduate programs. She also serves as the Coordinator for the Mentoring Programs through the Center for Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL). Prior to joining the faculty at Babson College, she taught at Boston College and Northern Illinois University. She spent her early career as a buyer for Filene’s, a Division of May Department Stores (now Macy’s). She earned her A.B., M.S., and Ph.D. from Boston College. Murphy has published her research in several journals, including the Academy of Management Learning and Education, Career Development International, Gender in Management: An International Journal, Human Resource Management, Journal of Management and the Journal of Vocational Behavior among others.

 

Susan Duffy

Susan Duffy is the Executive Director of the Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL) at Babson College. The CWEL is a collaborative learning laboratory dedicated to investigating, educating and celebrating women entrepreneurial leaders of all kinds. Susan is recognized within her sphere of influence as a source of thought and initiative in developing innovative education programs and delivering system-wide value in diverse organizations. Susan earned her Ph.D. from The George Washington University (GWU) in Management and Organization, a Master’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition Science from the Pennsylvania State University. Before joining Babson, Susan was an assistant professor at Simmons College where she launched the undergraduate program in entrepreneurship and was named the 2011 “Professor of the Year.”
