This class is a bit different than the rest of the classes we offer at Artisan's Asylum. Instead of building a specific skill set, or completing a certain final project, students in Building the Asylum work on infrastructural projects that are immediately put into use! Example projects that we've built so far have included rolling pegboard stands, stock racks and rolling whiteboard stands. Future projects include workbenches, partitions and other infrastructural work.
If you're already trained on woodworking and assembly tools and want to lend a helping hand, we'd love to have you! For our tracking purposes, it'd be great if you could let us know you're coming by purchasing a free ticket to this class.
The goal of this class is twofold. Its primary mission is to make its students handier with power tools and assembly techniques, introducing them to basic woodworking and assembly tools like table saws, sliding compound miter saws, circular saws, power drills, impact drivers, layout tools and more. Its secondary purpose is to fill out the Joy Street space with the infrastructure needed by our members to use the space for open studio time.
Students should bring safety glasses, hearing protection and work gloves to the class.
Instructor Biography: Wardens of the Asylum
This class is co-taught by several volunteer officers of the Asylum (which we fondly call Wardens). Artisan's Asylum has around 30 such officers who all contribute to developing, running and maintaining Artisan's Asylum. We are baristas, engineers, teachers, technicians, artists, designers, freelancers, professionals and everything in between. With all our skills combined, we've built this place from the ground up, and we'd like to teach you how to do it too!
