Major Donor fundraising is arguably the most important component of a fundraising strategy within the modern NGO, charity, not-for-profit or social enterprise. Recent research from the UK’s Institute of Fundraising indicates that, even among the most prominent Major Donor fundraisers, additional training is key to achieving success although few opportunities to hone ones skills actually exist.

This dynamic and highly interactive course will take you through the six steps that are essential to reaching your goal of raising $1 million from a single investor or multiple donors.

The workshop is designed for fundraisers who have an interest in learning about Major Donor fundraising because they are involved in strategy, planning or implementation of Major Donor fundraising tactics. Potential participants include:

  • Boards of Directors

  • Campaign Cabinet volunteers

  • Development Officers new to fundraising

  • Experienced Fundraisers new to Major Gifts fundraising

  • Students

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • The skills needed to build an in-depth fundraising strategy containing the key components of a successful Major Donor campaign

  • Analyzed the core principles and steps that lead to making the ask

  • Participated in ‘making-the-ask’ role play

  • Evaluated the various techniques for stewarding Major Donors

  • Explored how the donor lifecycle can support planned gifts

  • Applied your learning to the creation of a plan of action for the coming year

All participants will receive:

    • A copy of Building Successful Major Donor Relationships handbook (which includes course content, a toolkit of templates, and study materials with recommended reading and resources)
    • 16 CFRE Credits towards the CFRE designation. Full participation is applicable for sixteen (16) points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification
    • An additional one hour complimentary private (one-on-one) coaching session to support your journey in raising $1,000,000
