BSA Composite Materials Merit Badge Workshop at the Alliance Air Show
Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Composite Materials are everywhere you look but most people don't recognize them. They go by the names of fiberglass, graphite and Kevlar®.
They are the backbone of today’s modern aircraft. You find them in rockets, jets, helicopters, cars, tennis racquets, surf boards, sail boats, bridges and giant windmills generating electricity.
Bell Helicopter, Tarrant County College and SAMPE® (Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering) have teamed up to offer a free Composite Materials merit badge workshop. By earning this merit badge you will learn about the endless possibilities for using composites. You will also build two projects yourself using these high tech materials.
This free event is for registered Boy Scouts ages 11-17 only. Two workshop sessions are available and each is limited to 30 scouts. Due to space limitations, parents and siblings are not allowed into the workshop. Please enjoy the air show while your scout earns his merit badge.
Although the workshop and air show are free, you still need to pay the $30 parking fee. Discount parking ($25) is available in advance at www.allianceairshow.com.
If you registered but are unable to attend, please cancel your ticket and free up a spot for another scout. No-shows just take a seat from another scout who could have attended.
The workshop is in the Tarrant County College Aviation building located south of the main air show area. Follow the walking route shown in red on the map. This is a high traffic area for aircraft so use caution while walking. Escorts will also be available.
