Mike Daniels is the former chairman of Network Solutions, Inc. (1995–2000), former chairman and CEO of Mobile365 (2005–2006), and former chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (the largest technology council in the United States).
Mr. Daniels and Dr. Bob Beyster (founder, former CEO and chairman of SAIC) have co-authored a book entitled Names, Numbers, and Network Solutions, recently published by the Foundation for Enterprise Development. It is the story of a small Virginia technology company - Network Solutions, Inc. - that helped bring about the commercialization ofthe Internet by providing basic access to the network and its domain name system. Daniels and Beyster provide and insider's view of the process of commercializing government-funded technology, and how success is anything by inevitable.
Daniels rose to national industry prominence with SAIC, where he served as a member of the senior management team (senior vice president and sector vice president) from 1986 to 2004. He sold his company to SAIC in 1986, when SAIC had revenues of $500 million, and helped build SAIC to its current $11 billion in annual revenues. While at SAIC, he identified and purchased Network Solutions for $4.7 million in March 1995. He led Network Solutions (NSI) through a successful initial public offering (IPO) in 1997 and two successful follow-on offerings in 1999 and 2000. In January 2000, Daniels led Network Solutions in a follow-on offering of $2.3 billion, one of the largest technology equity offerings in history. Five years after he purchased NSI, he was instrumental in the company’s sale on SAIC’s behalf for $19.3 billion. Network Solutions contributed $3.0 billion in cash to SAIC, one of the largest transactions in SAIC’s thirty-seven-year history.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), Mercury Systems, CACI International, Acentia, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts of America National Capital Area Council. Daniels also serves as chairman of the board of GlobalLogic, the Logistics Management Institute, and Invincea.
