BRIO presents: Mira Nair
Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT)
TICKETS AVAILABLE STARTING APRIL 4th AT 11AM
Oscar-nominated, Indian-American film director Mira Nair will be on Brown's campus on April 11th to present a pre-release screening of her latest film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, staring Liev Schreiber, Kate Hudson and Kiefer Sutherland.
Ms. Nair is an important figure in Hollywood and Bollywood and an ambassador of the Indian-American cultural diaspora: her filmography (including The Namesake, Monsoon Wedding and Salaam Bombay!) places a heavy focus on international themes, on questions of national allegiance and cultural relativity, and on the difficulties and odd amalgams that result from crossing national boundaries. The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which stars Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland and Liev Schreiber, tells the story of a young Pakistani man educated at Princeton who, following the September 11th attacks, must negotiate the set of values he has internalized in the United States with his cultural heritage.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A and short reception in Granoff.
