Victoria Bach Festival String Orchestra
Craig Hella Johnson, conductor
A contrast in eras and emotions. George Frideric Handel’s dynamic Dixit Dominus features insistent, soaring vocal lines and furiously complex counterpoint. Arvo Pärt’s luminous, deeply felt Berliner Messe creates an aura of meditative serenity. On the Beach at Night by American composer Andrew Imbrie finds the awe in Walt Whitman’s words, lifting this magical poem to greater heights.
Pre-concert talk with Margaret Perry of the Armstrong Community Music School, 6:30 pm.
