Breast Reconstruction Update: Optimizing Patient Safety and Outcomes after Breast Reconstruction

Target Audience:
Physicians of All Specialties

Purpose:

Although the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act mandates insurance coverage for breast reconstruction, a minority of women undergoing mastectomy go on to reconstruction.  This presentation will focus on explaining the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of breast reconstruction available after mastectomy and breast conservation therapy and how different patient characteristics determine the safest reconstructive option.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify the procedures and services covered by the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act.
  • List the major types of breast reconstruction
  • Reduce risk by identifying patient specific characteristics that determine their safest reconstructive option

Faculty Presenters:

Mark Gaon, MD

Ryan Wong, MD

Moderator: Justin West, MD
