Bra Decorating Contest and Charity Fundraiser!
Do you have the knack for sewing, decorating, costume making? Or are you just extremely creative and crafty? Either way, we want your creation!
MECDA’s braVo! is a bra-decorating contest for all of the brilliant dancers, costumers, and people in our community that love to create! Decorate a bra, register, and show up at MECDA’s 36th Annual Cairo Caravan to find out if you won! All proceeds from registration will go to the Noreen Fraser Foundation. Think Pink! Think black and white, think purple and orange… just think and create!
The mission of the Noreen Fraser Foundation (NFF) is to raise funds for women’s breast cancer research and awareness of the importance of early detection. NFF supports translational cancer research aimed at developing new prevention methods, diagnostic tools, and non-toxic therapies to treat women’s cancers. Their programs urge women to be proactive and have regular screenings. Their hope is that until there are cures, women’s cancers will become manageable diseases controlled with targeted therapies that protect patients’ quality of life.
Whether your bra is an over the shoulder boulder holder, a demi-petit, or a training bra, we all value our female figures. Help other women value their figures again and have fun doing it! Imagine the possibilities! Dye it, cover it in flowers, ribbons, sequins, or whatever item you can glue on. Categories for the entries include: Classy & Sassy, Wild & Wacky, Wearable Art, Second Chance Enhance, Sweet Youth, Professional Costumers, and Think Pink!
Classy and Sassy: Glitz and glam, Garbo and Taylor, sweeping lines, classic designs, smooth and sleek, or delicate and meek… these bras will be beautiful yet understated, sophisticated, and luxurious.
Wild and Wacky: Rhinestones and Pop Rocks, feathers and trains, and absurdities galore! These bras will take a leap over that thin line between sane and crazy. Many people will ask, “What is that?” When they do, you will know that you accomplished your goal.
Wearable Art: Abstract and realism, cubism and post-modernism, the ugly painting period… whatever it might be that inspires your artistic creation, it will surely surpass the idea of craft and delve into the realm of wearable art.
Think Pink!: Fuchsia, magenta, light red, blush, coral, rose, salmon, hot pink, carnation pink… pretty in pink, tickled pink, in the pink… pink, pink, pink! Well, you get the idea. The entries for this category should be all… you guessed it, PINK!
Second Chance Enhance: Paper or Plastic? Cans, bottles, styrofoam, cardboard...whatever can be re-purposed into a creative holder for those racks that raq can be entered into this fun category. Go through your cupboards and closets for that one-of-a-kind treasure.
TWO new categories for 2013! We don’t want to leave anyone out so if you fit in any of the previous categories check these out:
Sweet Youth: Whether it’s a bra made of candy kisses, Lego pieces or their mother’s scrap fabric, kids have a refreshing perspective on what adults sometimes limit. Not only is coloring outside the lines permitted, it’s encouraged! This category is for our creative youth age 12 and under.
Professional Costumers: Here’s a chance for the gifted designer to show off their expertise in costuming. This is a great way to help raise funds for a worthwhile cause and do some advertising for your business. Win-win!
