Date: Wednesday, February 5

Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Location: Boston Society of Architects - 290 Congress Street, Boston, MA

The Boston Vectorworks User Group has been studying the workflows involved with modeling Walter Gropius’ family house, a New England architectural treasure. At this meeting, Nemetschek Vectorworks Inc.’s Landscape Architecture Industry Specialist, Eric Gilbey, PLA, ASLA, will continue this study from a site perspective. Using smart hybrid objects such as plants, walls, and hardscapes, Gilbey will demonstrate collaboration between the building and site while enabling the analysis of the modeled objects’ effectiveness in meeting the desired result.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Convert contour data from regional GIS sources and site plans into a 2D/3D (hybrid) terrain model and analyze it for slopes, water flow, and cut and fill calculations.
  • Graphically represent and document the plant material chosen for this site using information-rich plant objects.
  • Combine parametric wall and hardscape objects with site modifiers to manipulate the site’s terrain and recreate the site’s low-stone retaining walls and pavements.
  • Test the effectiveness of Gropius’ shade producing trellis structures throughout any given day of the year.
